Abel Mendonza Grano a Grano Graciano 2006 DOC Rioja
Tasted September 2011
Grapes - Graciano
Appearance - clear, medium plus intensity ruby colour.
Nose - clean, medium intensity, developing. Aromas range from toasty oak notes, some kirsch, dark cherries, ripe plum and a leathery undertone.
Palate - Dry, medium acidity, medium minus tannin, medium alcohol and body. Medium flavour intensity, showing dilute fruit flavours with the oak pretty much in evidence. Medium length.
Conclusions (14,5/20) - Good quality, high priced (€20), ready to drink but past its best. Showing some nice aromatic features that unfortunately are not followed through to the palate. Lost most of its freshness and intensity, shown when tasted in 2009.
