Artezin Zinfandel 2009 Mendocino county California USA
Tasted April 2013
Appearance - clear and bright medium intensity ruby colour. Some visible tears with viscous character.
Nose - a clean nose with developing aromatics with medium plus intensity, lots of sweet spice like nutmeg, cinnamon and clove, fruitcake, some dried fruits, mainly fig, ripe red cherry, fennel and a nice hint of licorice drop.
Palate - off dry, medium plus acidity, medium plus level of powdery tannins, medium plus body and alcohol. Medium plus intensity flavours totally coherent with the nose with the sweet spices upfront, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and saffron, fig, very ripe red cherry, fennel and sweet licorice. Medium plus spicy, earthy length.
Conclusions (16,5/20) - very good quality shows clear sense of place and variety typicity Very fun wine with lots of sweet notes of spices, dried fruits and even fruitcake, fairly well balanced with a medium plus acidity level and powdery, spicy, earthy tannins. Quite complex and lengthy. It shows some ageing potential, probably fun to drink again two years from now, but the edgy tannins and fresh acidity will fade, so probably best to enjoy right away. Cheerfully sweet and spicy
