Azienda Agricola Il Palagio Chianti Classico 2008 DOCG
Tasted September 2012
Grapes - 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot
Appearance - clear and bright medium ruby colour with visible tears.
Nose - clean, youthful, medium intensity aromas of ripe plum, some toasted oak, ripe red cherries and some dried herbs..
Palate - dry, medium plus acidity, powdery, well integrated medium plus tannin, medium plus alcohol and medium body. Medium plus flavour intensity of cherry fruit, just slightly sour, fresh plum, some pungent liquorice, notes of toasty oak and just a hint of earthy and steely minerality.
Conclusions (15,75) - good quality wine, shows some sense of place although a bit overshadowed by oak. Nice fruit concentration, good freshness and respectable structure, probably best after 2 or 3 years of bottle ageing.
