Azienda Agricola Il Palagio Chianti Classico 2009 DOCG
Tasted September 2012
Grapes - 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot
Appearance - clear and bright medium ruby colour with some visible tears.
Nose - clean and youthful with medium plus intensity aromas of bright and ripe red fruits, some raspberry, cherry and plum, some sweet oaky vanilla aromas, floral hints of violets and a good whisk of stony minerality.
Palate - dry, high acidity, medium tannin level, round and smooth, medium alcohol and body. Medium plus flavour intensity with very precise red fruit notes consistent with the nose and a fresh stony minerality.
Conclusions (16,75/20) - very good quality wine, typical, lovely expressive palate with precise, fresh fruit flavours lifted by a nice mineral character. Some sweet oaky notes, although restrained and giving the ensemble a touch of complexity. Good component balance with integrated tannins and mouthwatering acidity. Drink now but will keep well for the next 5 years.
