Azienda Agricola Il Palagio Riserva Chianti Classico 2008
Tasted September 2012
Grapes - 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot
Appearance - clear and bright medium plus ruby colour with visible tears.
Nose - clean, youthful, medium plus intensity aromas of ripe black cherry, fresh plum, some rose petals, a steely minerality and just some hints of oaky vanilla.
Palate - dry, high acidity, medium plus tannin, alcohol and body. Medium plus intensity flavours resembling ripe, but fresh, black and red fruits, mainly cherry and plum, fresh mineral notes, steely and slightly earthy, spicy with sweet notes and just a touch of pungency as black pepper and some liquorice. There's also a detectable trace of ripe green bell pepper through the prolonged length.
Conclusions (17,5) - very good quality wine, a clear sense of place, a delicious acidity, bright and lively sweet fruit character and muscular structure, all in balance. Shows a nice complexity and long pleasing after-taste. Enters smoothly but shows its tannins on the finish. Can drink ow but will be better 6 to 8 years from now.
