Conde de Vimioso Colheita Seleccionada Rose 2011, regional Tejo
Tasted July 2012
Appearance - clear and bright, beautiful deep pink hue. Almost rimless and showing a few tears.
Nose - clean, youthful and fresh medium intensity aromas of red fruits, fresh and ripe strawberry, some raspberry, red cherry, a note of yeast (resembling fresh fermenting must), a floral touch of violets and some leafy notes.
Palate - dry, medium acidity, a low tannin level, medium body and alcohol level. Shows medium intensity flavours, all very fresh and consistent with the red fruits found on the nose of strawberry, raspberry, juicy cranberry and slightly sour red cherry. There is a slightly herbaceous side on the medium length after-taste.
Conclusions (14,5/20) - good quality wine, totally dry, showing a very fresh fruity character although lacking a little extra acidity to render it a bit more interesting. Very correct and well made, harmonious, has some matter and a nicely rounded palate. Nice summer drink with arguments to pair well with light foods. Drink now, not intended for ageing. For the price there's not much you can ask more.
