Gilles Barge Côte Brune 2007 AOC Côte-Rotie

Grapes - Syrah (100%)

Appearance - clear, vibrant, medium intensity ruby colour.

Nose - clean, youthful, pronounced intensity aromas of mixed black and red fruits, blackberry, cherry, some meaty notes, grilled herbs and slight hint of rubber.

Palate  - dry, medium acidity, high tannin presence, that are robust but not overly imposing, medium body and alcohol. Flavour profile also showing pronounced intensity, displaying fresh wild berry fruits, distinct meaty character, earthy mineral notes and hints of leather. Long length.

Conclusions (18/20) -  Outstanding quality, super premium priced (€40). Intensely flavored with distinct aromatic character, somewhat rustic, exhibits clear sense of place with the earthy and meaty savoury notes supported by generous fruit. This wine needs time to develop its full potential and will keep evolving positively for at least 5 years. Nevertheless it could be an interesting pairing with a grilled steak seasoned with dry aromatic herbs.
