Herdade das Albernoas Red 2009 Regional Alentejano (Paço do Conde)
Tasted January 2012
Appearance - clear, medium plus intensity ruby colour.
Nose - clean and youthful, has medium intensity aromas of well defined red fruits, cranberry, red cherry and strawberry, on the background some herbaceous notes.
Palate - dry, medium acidity, medium minus tannin level, ripe and resolved, medium body with medium plus warming alcohol level. Has medium flavour intensity, with mainly ripe red fruits, some plum and again some herbaceous notes, very basic and primal. Medium minus length is the main downfall.
Conclusions(13,5/20) - Acceptable quality for 3€, not unbalanced or flawed, nice fruit, but clearly lacking in complexity and quickly vanishing from the palate. Can see it as a proper every day wine for most, it is enjoyable flavour wise, smooth body, easy to drink and a cheap buy.
