Loch Lomond, Trossachs national park and Stirling castle November 2011
While in Edinburgh there is no shortage of options to explore. We thought about renting a car but were unsure about the roads and put off by the particularity of a right sided steering wheel.
So we did what we usually dread...a guided bus tour. But we're glad we did it, we chose Timberbush Tours, and went to visit Loch Lomond and Sterling Castle. A small bus very conformable, driven by a very spirituous and nice Scottish driver, who too told us some nice tales of the land, some factual some legends, but always in a very humorous tone. At the scheduled stops we were left with total freedom to explore, having time for some trekking by the lake, a nice lunch at a nearby village and medieval reminiscence at the castle. So this wasn't really a guided tour, it was closer to lucky hitch-hiking with a friendly, knowledgeable local.
A next trip will be in place for a thorough exploration of the Highlands, this sample was just eye opening, we want more. Probably a trip asking for an auto-caravan rental.
