João Portugal Ramos Marquês de Borba red 2011 DOC Alentejo
Appearance - clear and bright, deep purple colour with lots of visible tears.
Nose - clean and youthful with medium plus intensity aromas of black fruits, mainly ripe blueberry, some balsamic notes, a little undergrowth and hints of sweet spice.
Palate - dry, medium acidity level but managing to refresh the palate, a medium plus level of very ripe and round tannins, medium plus alcohol and a full body. Palate has medium plus intensity, once again exhibiting tons of ripe but fresh black fruits, plum, some tobacco leaf and spices on the medium plus length.
Conclusions (15,75/20) - good quality, has sense of place, extra juicy wine showing the warm embrace of Alicante Bouschet and the exotic aromas of Touriga well mellowed with more vegetal and fresher grapes. A smooth, velvety palate totally mouth coating. Simple wine with just a hint of complexity but very compelling, a safe harbour with a very rational price tag.
Approximate retail price - €5,50
