Tapada de Coelheiros Chardonnay 2009 Regional Alentejo
Tasted May 2012
Appearance - clear and bright with medium minus golden hue. A clearer rim and some visible tears.
Nose - clean and youthful with medium plus intensity aromatics with notes of ripe peaches, lots of vanilla and some smoky notes from oak ageing, slightly tropical with hint of ripe melon and some honey notes.
Palate - dry, medium plus acidity, medium plus alcohol level but perfectly integrated with the full body. Pronounced flavours of ripe, jammy peaches and pear, some fresh lemony hints, a nutty kernel note, buttery and vanilla oaky nuances and some smokiness.
Conclusions (16,75/20) - very good quality, broad but elegant. Creamy with lots of matter but with a nice freshness balancing out this ripe, full character and the oaky sweetness, which I hope gets better integrated along the way with some bottle age. So it is ready to drink but I think it will be better around 2014. Approximate retail price - €15
