On arrival one can get a bit suspicious about what you are getting.
We arrive at a big green steel gate that will open after a buzzing. We enter to a small parking lot with a rotunda and you can even start to wonder if this is the right spot.
Everything changes once you pass the reception door...
Instantly we are greeted by a radiant Spanish modern butler that gets the relaxation bug flowing by releasing us from our bags, and worries, by offering us a glass of fine champagne to be drank at the nearby terrace.
The view from the terrace is so soothing after a days work that all our problems are left behind and our mind starts to fly over the luxurious garden beneath us, that flows into a secluded beach and the infinite ocean.
Our room was not ready, which we found odd, but this not only prolonged the enjoyable outside moment but was in fact a perk as we were being upgraded to one very special suite! Sometimes everything just goes right.
Our room was out of this world...we entered through a big wooden door into a big living room with all the desired commodities, connected to a big room with a large king size bed. The room was divided from the bathroom by a sliding glass door which hides a beautiful double bathtub designed to blow your mind. Another small room adjacent to the suite holds a dressing room with two big closets and mirrored walls. Could it get any better than this?
YES it CAN!! The whole suite opened to an outside private terrace with perfect endless ocean view, this is Paradise found!
And the best was yet to come, could you image it?
As you might know the Vila Joya restaurant is a 2 Michelin stars and it really lives up to the buzz.
The meal is composed of a 6 course dishes to which you should add a chef's surprise at the beginning. We had two dinners there, two days in a row, no repeated dishes and both equally marvellous, We inquired and found out that there is a different menu every day of the year, and it is very difficult to go back there and have the same exact experience. This is incredible if you consider the fact that the restaurant is opened every day of the year.
All dishes were impeccably cooked, with perfect intense flavours, excellent presentation and full of noble delicious ingredients. Service is very attentive and efficient, granting a good paced rhythm to the meal.
Wine choice is immensely vast and is figured in three separate books.
All dishes were matched with a selected wine, by a very crafty sommelier. I have to mention the caviar dish with a Kabinnett Riesling , what a perfect combination.
With a glorious sunny day we set off to explore the grounds, finding the lovely garden to have a lovely heated pool, which was very welcome as in spite the nice weather, March is not all that hot in Portugal.
There is also another outdoor pool with fresh water at an elevated level near the Spa. The Spa facilities are elegant and modern with strong Indian influences. One can find the usual services but we were surprised by a double shower that simulated various rainstorms from around the world each with a specific intensity, aroma, and sound, very enjoyable. Therapists were very professional and delivered a very competent massage.
Overall this was a perfect experience, with the assistance of the clear blue sky, this weekend getaway was close to heaven. Would highly recommend it but must say it has once in a lifetime price tag.
